Did Derrick Rose cheat on his SAT?
As John Calipari vacates the University of Memphis for greener pastures at Kentucky, he leaves in his wake a sea of scandal — and NBA rookie of the year Derrick Rose may be in the middle of it.
The NCAA is accusing Memphis of major violations during the 2007-08 season with Calipari at the helm.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal obtained through a Freedom of Information request the NCAA documents that charge a Memphis recruit of “knowing fraudulence or misconduct in connection with his entrance examination.” That player competed for Memphis during the 2007-08 season — and only that season — which included the team’s trip to the Final Four.
“The player has subsequently denied the charge, according to university personnel.
“The only player on the roster who competed only during that season
was Derrick Rose, who subsequently was the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft
“If proven to be true, the Tigers could be forced to forfeit their NCAA-record 38 victories and Final Four appearance.”
ESPN’s Pat Forde said today on the network, “If you put two and two together you come up with … Derrick Rose.”
Memphis is expected to appear before the NCAA Committee on Infractions June 6. Calipari’s presence has been requested at the hearing.
