New father Jared Allen expected back for Bears’ preseason opener vs. Eagles
Bears defensive end Jared Allen missed his third consecutive practice Tuesday to be with his wife for the birth of their second daughter, a Bears source confirmed. Allen is expected to return in time for Friday’s preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brandon Marshall also missed practice Tuesday, but it was a “coach’s decision,” Bears head coach Marc Trestman said. “You could see the work that Brandon’s put in,” Trestman said. “We just wanted to give him a little time out of practice today.”
With Martellus Bennett suspended and Marquess Wilson injured, the Bears have yet to have their full complement of offensive regulars together at any point of training camp. Kyle Long returned from a viral infection Monday. But Trestman said he is not concerned that it will hamper the progress of the offense.
“We don’t want to lose anybody,” Trestman said. “We’re just plugging guys in, giving Jay an opportunity. Through the whole camp, you’ve seen that Jay has gotten more reps and not only with the [first team] but with the [second-team] receiving group as well.”
Tim Jennings (quad) did not practice Tuesday. Jordan Mills left early with a sore foot. Isaiah Frey left practice early because of a leg injury, which he presumed was a pulled hamstring.
