White Sox avoid arbitration with Beckham, De Aza
The White Sox agreed to one-year contracts with second baseman Gordon Beckham and center fielder and leadoff man Alejandro De Aza on Friday, avoiding salary arbitration by paying Beckham $2.925 million and De Aza $2.075 million for the 2013 season.
Beckham projected to make a fraction more and De Aza a little less based on service time and production. Beckham, 26, batted .234 with 60 RBI and set career highs with 16 home runs, 62 runs, 151 game played and 123 hits. His .9899 fielding percentage was second-best in club history behind Nellie Fox’s .9901 in 1962.
Playing his first full season with the Sox, the 28-year-old De Aza batted .281 with 29 doubles, nine homers , 50 RBI, 81 runs and 26 stolen bases in 131 games.
Beckham’s salary in 2012 was $520,000. De Aza’s was $495,000.
