Sore ribs knock Sweeney out of game
SEATTLE — Outfielder Ryan Sweeney, whose two-way production has manager Dale Sveum calling him part of the Cubs’ future, left Saturday night’s game after banging his left rib cage making a leaping catch against the wall in the third inning.
Sweeney, the regular center fielder since David DeJesus went on the DL after crashing into a wall June 14 in New York, was to be evaluated further by the Cubs medical staff before determining his playing status.
He entered Saturday’s game hitting .297 with an .877 OPS and flied to center in his only at-bat before the injury.
