Derrick Rose, Luol Deng unlikely to play against Heat
Derrick Rose will miss his 25th game of the season with his fifth different injury when the Bobcats host the Bulls on Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Coach Tom Thibodeau revealed during his pregame media session that both Rose and Luol Deng will not play against the Bobcats, who have lost a franchise-record 17 straight. It will be the second straight missed game for Deng, who injured his ribs against the Pistons.
Both players are also likely to miss Thursday night’s final regular season showdown with the Heat in Miami.
Although it’s possible Rose and Deng could play against the Heat, Thibodeau likes injured players to practice or at least participate in a shootaround before returning to the court and he does not typically schedule shootarounds when the team is playing on back-to-back nights.
The Bulls currently lead Miami by 2 1/2 games for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
“Ideally, you try to put as many things in your favor as possible,” Thibodeau said when asked about the importance of home-court advantage. “Is it a must? I always think if you can get it you get it and if not whatever your circumstances are you make the best of those circumstances. We’re young and I want us to continue to improve, learn how to win. Last year, I thought home court helped us a lot. But if you don’t have home court you don’t. You have to win more on the road, that’s all.”
