Video: Patrick Kane’s shootout goal on Niklas Backstrom
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Jonathan Toews couldn’t help but smile.
Toews scored in the shootout to help the Blackhawks defeat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 on Wednesday, but his goal didn’t compare to what Patrick Kane pulled off against goalie Niklas Backstrom.
“It was awesome. It was for the win,” Toews said. “There’s a lot of pressure, there. It’s tough to go in there thinking about what you want to do with all that riding on it. He made no mistakes. It was a big win for the boys and a little flash by P. Kane.”
Toews’ goal was actually the decisive goal in the shootout, but there was a buzz about Kane’s. Kane came in slowly on Backstrom and made several moves before finally lifting the goal over his pads.
Here’s the video:
Kane said he practiced the move.
“I just kind of slowed down and waited for the goalie to bite,” Kane said. “I was kind of practicing to go slow and see which way the goalie bites. I was either going to bring it back to my backhand or my forehand, and he bit on the backhand fake. It was a good finish to a good game.”
