T.J. Oshie, Patrik Berglund out; Vladimir Tarasenko in for Blackhawks-Blues playoff opener
The Blackhawks will be at full strength for their 2014 Stanley Cup playoff opener, but the St. Louis Blues will not.
Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said forward T.J. Oshie (upper body) and center Patrik Berglund will not play in Game 1 at Scottrade Center tonight. But forward Vladimir Tarasenko (broken hand) will play. Tarasenko had a cast removed this week but is all clear, Hitchock said.
‘‘There’s no limitations,’’ Hitchcock said. ‘‘He deserves an awful lot of credit. He did double extra duty to be physically conditioned and ready to play. This is going to be a significant challenge for him because he’s never played in a playoff game very much and he’s missed a lot of time.
‘‘But between the training staff and his commitment to conditioning knowing that the injury he had would allow him to play right away, he has worked extra hard to be in the best shape of his life. Originally it was a no-go for the first round and now you’re seeing a guy play Game 1, which is really significant.’’
