Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews looks ready to return from his concussion
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Things are looking very good for Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. It’s now reached a point to where he’ll be surprised if he didn’t play in Game 1 of their first-round series against the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.
Toews has missed the last 22 games with a concussion. But his return is now imminent. Toews skated again on the first line between Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa at practice Wednesday at Jobing.com Arena.
How is he feeling?
“Very good,” Toews said afterward. “I’m feeling good.”
Good enough to play?
“Yeah,” he said. “I’m right there. It’s just been another day where I just feel like I’m getting better and better and getting back to where I want to be as far as when I’m going to play a game.”
Would he be surprised if he didn’t play in Game 1?
“Yeah,” Toews said. “But again, it’s just the goal we’ve set for ourselves. The training staff and our [doctors] we’re going to make that decision [Thursday] and kind of stick with that program.”
But most important, did he feel any symptoms while practicing Wednesday?
“No. Not at all,” Toews said.
That’s a big step for Toews, who previously said he only felt his symptoms while practicing. Toews has passed all concussion protocols.
