Internet confuses sunny Blackhawks rally with foggy World Cup party
Don’t trust the internet.
During Thursday’s World Cup match between the USA and Germany, a photo of crowds at Grant Park quickly began circulating on Twitter that was too good to be true. Look at all the people! Soccer is getting more popular by the minute!

Yes, there was a rally at Butler Field, but Chicagoans only needed to take a quick glance out the window to realize that maybe the photo wasn’t quite accurate.
The photo spread far and wide, garnering thousands of retweets and shares from many accounts, including one unofficial World Cup account with more than 500,000 followers.
The original photo is from last summer’s Blackhawks rally, when more than two million people turned out to watch the guys hoist the Stanley Cup. The photo appears to have been taken by the Comcast Sports Chicago crew.
The Sun-Times figured it would do its part to halt the dastardly lie that we are currently basking in gorgeous summer weather.
