Corey Crawford to start against New York Rangers
NEW YORK — The Blackhawks were down at one end of the rink Wednesday at Chelsea Piers in New York, running drills in close on Ray Emery and badgering him with shots.
At the other end, Corey Crawford worked alone with goalie coach Stephane Waite.
On Thursday, the Hawks will be with Crawford when he takes over in net as they try to put an end to their nine-game losing streak with a victory against the Eastern Conference-leading Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
“We’re going into a tough building against a top team,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “It’s a great challenge for us. Let’s try to get it done.”
Emery had started the past two games and lost both as Quenneville continues to look for one of his goalies to take over. Right now, there is no help on the way. General manager Stan Bowman continues to say that he’s not looking for a goalie in the trade market.
In his last outing, Crawford allowed five goals on 27 shots in a 5-3 loss against the Sharks in San Jose. His last victory was Jan. 18 over the Buffalo Sabres.
“[Crawford] wants the net and he wants to play,” Quenneville said. “I’m sure Ray wants to play as well. We’ve been going back-and-forth a little bit here. But we need a win.”
Note: Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Marian Hossa all missed practice Wednesday in New York. Quenneville said all three were “resting” and should play against the Rangers.
