Bears’ Tim Jennings looks to ‘get a feel’ for nickel while fighting sore quad injury
BOURBONNAIS — Tim Jennings is trying to learn a position.
Problem is, the Pro Bowler can’t stay on the field for a full practice.
The Bears’ cornerback — who has been learning the nickelback position — again tapered off his practice at training camp Thursday because of a sore quad.
The repetitions he did take “went well,” Jennings said.
“I like (nickelback),” he said. “Let’s see if I can get a feel for it.
“I was more comfortable at corner, so now you have to get more comfortable at nickel. And be comfortable at both.”
Jennings said he “had to be smart” about his quad, especially this early in the season.
“I don’t want to put too much on it because I might pull it,” he said. “Because you feel good at the start of practice, and sometimes you might aggravate it or re-aggravate it. So you have to be smart about it.”
Jennings had high praise for the team’s new unit.
“I think we have a real special team right here,” he said. “A real special defense, once we put everything together.”
