Rookie QB David Fales to start Bears’ preseason finale against Browns
Despite not playing in each of the last two preseason games, Bears rookie quarterback David Fales will start Thursday’s finale against the Browns — and figures to play the whole game.
The sixth-round draft pick said that coach Marc Trestman “told me I was going to play the whole game,” while Trestman said he would simply start and have Jimmy Clausen in the wings in case of emergency. It’s highly unlikely, though, that the Bears would want to expose their new second-string quarterback to game action in Cleveland.
“I’m just excited to get out there, run around and have fun,” Fales said. “Definitely excited to get in and play and compete. I’ve been staying dialed in each week, so I know the offense, I know the reads. So I’m definitely excited to go out there and play.”
Fales went 5-for-7 for 68 yards against the Eagles in his only preseason passes.
