Rick Dennison flattered by Bears interest but he’s focused on Patriots
Houston Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison is flattered by the Bears interest in him for their head-coaching vacancy. But he doesn’t want to be distracted from his duties with the Texans, he told the Houston Chronicle.
Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said today he’s focused on the divisional-round game at New England rather than interviewing for a head-coaching job. Click here for the Chronicle story.
Dennison said general manager Rick Smith and coach Gary Kubiak told him the Bears asked for and received permission to interview him, but he hasn’t heard from the Bears, according to the Chronicle.
“The Bears have a great organization, and I know several members of their staff as well as Jay [Cutler] and Brandon [Marshall],” Dennison told the Chronicle. “I haven’t talked to them. I don’t know what’s going on. I’m focused on getting ready for [New England].
“If something happens, it can’t interfere with my work. I’m not going up there because it would be too disruptive our work week.”
Dennison told the Chronicle that he wants to be a head coach, but he’s committed to the Texans.
“Yes, I do, but I’m not sitting around thinking about it,” he said. “I appreciate any interest, but my loyalty is to this organization and doing everything I can to help us win. For somebody to ask about [me], it’s an honor, but I don’t want to consume too much time on that because I’ve got enough to do here.”
