Offensive linemen who interest Bears sign elsewhere
In search of upgrades, the Bears have been linked to a number of free-agent offensive linemen: Jake Long, Phil Loadholt, Andy Levitre and Brandon Moore.
After seeing some sign elsewhere, the Bears agreed to terms on a five-year deal with left tackle Jermon Bushrod, who is reunited with new offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer. Bushrod developed into a Pro Bowler under Kromer with the Saints.
As for the others, the Bears inquired about Levitre, the best guard available, but, according to multiple reports, he signed a massive, long-term deal with the Titans.
According to the Tennessean’s Jim Wyatt, Levitre, who started every game at guard for the Bills since 2009, agreed to a six-year deal worth $46.8 million. There was no way the Bears would be able to afford that without making considerable changes.
The Bears also had an interest in Loadholt, a right tackle with the Vikings. But he re-signed with the Vikings just before free agency opened at 3 p.m.
Long, arguably the best left tackle in the NFL before injuries hindered him, will reportedly visit with the Rams.
