Bears tight end Martellus Bennett pitches free agent brother Michael on national TV
Bears tight end Martellus Bennett made his case for the Bears to his free agent brother Michael — and he did it on NFL Network on Monday. (Watch the video here)
He threatened to roll out the “Orange Carpet” — he is the Orange Dinosaur, after all — at O’Hare in the first installation of their “Bro to Bro” segment.
The Bennetts discussed a possible family reunion with the Bears. Michael, the Seahawks’ star defensive end, can sign with any team starting Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Bears have intense interest in him helping to fix their poor pass rush, but national reports say the Seahawks have made a push Monday to keep him in Seattle.
Michael Bennett played coy, but spent the entire segment smiling.
“I gotta leave you suspenseful for the next couple hours,” Michael Bennett said. “And go home and make the right decision.
“It’s really hard.”
Martellus Bennett, who was celebrating his 27th birthday, tried to sell his brother on the benefits of Chicago. He said they could pitch the Jordan brand together and do Doublemint commercials.
“Talking about the black ‘Duck Dynasty now,’” he said.
He said Michael had interests outside football. However …
“None of those are tech or coffee,” Martellus said, referencing Seattle businesses. “Come on down to Chicago, man.”
