Marc Trestman still searching for right WR coach
The Bears held a media day of sorts Thursday at the Walter Payton Center to introduce all their new coordinators and assistant coaches.
But one was missing.
Bears coach Marc Trestman is still searching for a wide receivers coach to replace Darryl Drake, who was dismissed not long after Lovie Smith was fired.
“We’re close,” Trestman said. “I’m hopeful that it would be resolved in the very near future. But we need to get the right guy, that he’s the right for us and we’re the right fit for him.”
The new receivers coach will have plenty to work with in Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Earl Bennett. Marshall set franchise records with 118 receptions and 1,508 receiving yards. The goal will be getting more out of the others.
Drake was one of Smith’s first hires with the Bears. His inability to make Devin Hester a full-time receiver stands out.
Trestman stressed more than once that he hopes to name a replacement soon.
“It’s a process that we’re going through and we’re looking for the proper fit and I’m willing to take our time to do that,” Trestman said. “And I’m hoping the fit will be right on both sides of the equation.”
