Henry Melton touring teams; Bears not affected by million-dollar lawsuit brought against DT
Former Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton is touring NFL teams, though the Bears are open to the defensive tackle’s return.
Though, general manager Phil Emery said, time is running short.
He said he agreed with Melton’s agent they would talk after his evaluated his market value by visiting other franchises. Melton visited the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday.
But, as the Bears have proven by signing seven players in the last three days, the team’s available salary is a moving, shrinking target.
“Of course the clock’s ticking,” Emery said.
Melton is being sued for more than $1 million, reports said Thursday, after a December incident at a bar in Grapevine, Texas. He is accused of biting the owner of the sports bar near the kidney area.
“That’s the first I’ve heard of it,” Emery said. “I think that’s been an ongoing issue in terms of that issue coming to conclusion.
“In terms of evaluating Henry the player, that’s separate from that.”
