Former Bears quarterback Josh McCown is “Good Guy” winner for 2013
There will be a new big plaque in the Halas Hall media room that honors players for the courtesy, professionalism, and respect they show throughout a season.
And the first name on it is a former Bear: quarterback Josh McCown.
The Chicago chapter of the Professional Football Writers of America voted McCown, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after strong season in relief of Jay Cutler, the inaugural winner of the award. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was the national winner of the award.
McCown said he was “humbled and appreciative” of being the first to win the new annual award.
“We all work together — players, media, coaches and owners,” McCown said in a PFWA statement. “We rely on one another. If you boil it down to its purest form, guys started playing football. People wanted to see it so they started charging and the player got paid.
“Then writers started writing about it so more people knew about it. By writing about what we do and bringing it to a bigger audience, it really affords us an opportunity to play and get paid.”
