Bears’ GM Phil Emery: Julius Peppers’ return unlikely, but not out-of-the-question
The Bears would welcome Julius Peppers back if his salary demands jibed with the team’s available cap space, general manager Phil Emery said Wednesday.
Not that it’s likely.
“That could occur for a number of players in terms of coming to the Bears, depending on what their market is, once that’s been determined,” Emery said. “So we’re open, we’re always open to getting better at every level of our team and our roster.
“So any player — including Julius, if they want to have an opportunity to come back and we can provide that opportunity, meaning we have the cap space — we’re always open to it.”
The Bears released the defensive end — who would have carried a $18.2 million cap number next year — on Tuesday night.
