Chris Conte leads Bears’ long list of inactives
Chris Conte won’t be making his preseason debut tonight against the Jaguars, after all.
Two days after Marc Trestman said he was “hoping” the safety would play his first game since offseason shoulder surgery, Conte will not be in uniform.
More surprisingly, defensive end Willie Young was declared out. He was not dealing with any injury disclosed by the team at training camp.
The Bears would not give a reason for his absence.
They join a list of Bears regulars who will miss Week 2: wideout Marquess Wilson (collarbone), safety Craig Steltz (groin), cornerback Isaiah Frey (hamstring), guard/tackle Eben Britton (hamstring), guard/center Brian de la Puente (knee), tackle Jordan Mills (foot), receiver Chris Williams (hamstring) and tight end Dante Rosario (calf sorness).
Mills was last seen in a walking boot; he is still experiencing soreness in his left foot, which was surgically repaired during the offseason. Williams and de la Puente were injured during the Bears’ preseason victory against the Eagles, while the others were lost in practice.
