Bruce Arians to interview again with Bears
Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians will get a second interview with the Bears, a league source told the Sun-Times.
Arians was scheduled to interview Sunday with Bears general manager Phil Emery. An NFL coach of the year candidate, Arians has emerged as one of the hottest head coach prospects, along with Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.
Arians is scheduled to meet with the San Diego Chargers Wednesday.
The Chargers are an intriguing team since they hired Colts player personnel vice president Tom Telesco to be the new general manager. Arians told a San Diego radio station that he had a lot of respect for Telesco.
But sources have indicated to the Sun-Times that Arians is also intrigued with the Bears job since the team did go 10-6 in 2012 and features a strong roster, most notably quarterback Jay Cutler. It’s believed Arians prefers to head to a team with a proven quarterback in place.
But Arians has a track record of developing players at that position. He was the first to work with Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck, not to mention several of Ben Roethlisberger’s best years in Pittsburgh.
Could you imagine the feather in Arians’ cap if he could get the best out of Jay Cutler?
That may just be the sort of challenge that appeals to Arians.
