Bears sign wide receiver Josh Morgan
With openings at receiver and returner, the Bears added a player to their mix on Monday that could potentially fill both of them.
The Bears signed wide receiver Josh Morgan to a one-year deal. Last season with the Washington Redskins, Morgan caught 20 passes for 214 yards, returned 12 kickoffs for 239 yards and had eight punt returns for 59 yards in 14 games played (including seven starts).
Morgan has appeared in 79 games with 54 starts in six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers (2008-11) and Redskins (2012-13). In his career, he has 199 receptions for 2,488 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Bears are looking for a No. 3 receiver after Earl Bennett was released after declining a pay cut. With Devin Hester gone, the Bears also need a returner for the first time since 2006.
Morgan will compete with Marquess Wilson, Eric Weems, Domenik Hixon and Chris Williams at receiver. Weems, Hixon, Williams and running back Michael Ford also are options in the return game.
