Bears sign fourth-round pick Ka’Deem Carey
The Bears continued their run of signing free agents Tuesday, adding fourth-round pick Ka’Deem Carey to a four-year contract.
The 5-9, 207-pound running back had 3,814 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns his last two seasons at Arizona.
Coach Marc Trestman said Saturday he envisioned Carey, the 2012 NCAA rushing leader, as a “three-down back who can play in any situation and run routes out of the backfield, certainly run inside and outside.”
He’ll compete with Shaun Draughn and Michael Ford for the lead backup role behind Matt Forte, the last running back the Bears drafted before Carey on Saturday.
The Bears signed Draughn as a free agent, while Ford played special teams as a rookie.
The Tucson, Ariz., native ran a 4.66-yard 40-yard dash at Arizona’s pro day, following a 4.70 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Terms were not disclosed, but the No. 117 overall pick in 2013, Khaseem Greene, signed a four-year, $2.59 million deal with the Bears that featured $432,092 in guaranteed money.
The Bears have signed four of their seven picks: Carey, Minnesota safety Brock Vereen, San Jose State quarterback David Fales and Boise State tackle Charles Leno, Jr.
