Bears re-sign tackle Eben Britton
The Bears’ swing tackle — and sometimes tight end — is coming back to town.
The team re-signed Eben Britton to a one-year deal Thursday.
Britton spent most of last season as the team’s Monster Tight End, blocking on rushing downs to help save Martellus Bennett’s shoulder. He played 191 snaps there through the first 16 weeks of the season; in the finale, he took over for injured right tackle Jordan Mills, who broke his foot. Britton logged 48 snaps that day at tackle and received his highest grade of the season from Pro Football Focus.
Mills is expected to be able to participate in offseason workouts.
The 6-foot-6, 309-pound Arizona graduate was drafted in the second round by the 2009 Jaguars. He signed a one-year deal with the Bears last offseason.
The 26-year-old able to play tackle and guard, but said toward the end of last season he would work on center, too, to add to his versatility.
