Bears’ Jeffery going to Pro Bowl
Alshon Jeffery is headed to the Pro Bowl after all.
The Bears’ second-year wide receiver was named to the NFL’s all-star game Thursday, taking the place of the Lions’ Calvin Johnson, who has a knee injury. The game will be held Jan. 26 in Honolulu, with the players being drafted into two teams 13 days from now.
Jeffery had 1,421 receiving yards, sixth-most in the NFL, on 89 catches. He didn’t make the team when it was first announced last month, though teammates Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte did.
“Just being from where I came from to where I am now, what I’m doing … it’s just special to be part of the success we’re having as a team,” Jeffery said in a release. “I want to thank my Mama and my family. I’m going to continue to make you all proud.”
The South Carolina alum posted the second-best receiving season in Bears history — behind Marshall’s 2012 season — and broke the franchise record for receiving yards in a game twice.
