Bears’ contract for Jeremiah Ratliff: 2 years, $4 million
Jeremiah Ratliff’s two-year contract, agreed to Wednesday night, will pay him $4 million, sources told the Sun-Times, with $600,000 guaranteed.
The Bears and Ratliff found mutual comfort in the deal: The defensive tackle, signed as a free agent for the veteran minimum in November, wanted to stay and play in the team’s 4-3 defense.
The Bears wanted to retain the four-time Pro Bowler but still have enough money to remake their woeful defense when free agency begins Tuesday.
Ratliff made $18 million in guaranteed money on his last deal with the Cowboys, an extension, but did not appear on the field while recovering from a groin injury.
