Bears reach deal with Sherrick McManis, continue to bolster special teams
The Bears continued to shore up their special teams on Wednesday, agreeing to terms on a one-year deal with cornerback Sherrick McManis.
The move comes a day after safety Craig Steltz was re-signed to one-year deal and safety Danny McCray was added with a one-year contract of his own. Steltz and McManis have been stalwarts on the Bears’ special teams for the past two seasons.
McManis, a Northwestern product, was second on the Bears with 15 special-teams tackles last season. His 25 special teams tackles over the last two seasons also are tied for second most.
McCray, who spent the past four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, has starting experience (12 starts in 2012), but is also valued for his special-teams work. He also is familiar with special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis, working with him in Dallas for three seasons.
The Bears also signed linebacker Jordan Senn to a one-year contract earlier this month. He was a standout on special teams for the Carolina Panthers the past four seasons.
