White Sox outright Guerra to AAA Charlotte
The White Sox outrighted right-handed reliever Javy Guerra to Class AAA Charlotte on Friday, two days after he was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Guerra, who owns a 4-5 record with 29 saves and a 2.90 ERA over parts of three seasons with the Dodgers, spent most of last season with Class AAA Albuquerque.
Guerra is reporting to the Sox spring training facility in Glendale, Ariz., today.
Due to the timing of the Sox request, the 28-year-old Guerra, who is out of options, could have gone through waivers again but any team claiming him would have to place him on their Opening Day roster.
“It’s potentially another high-leverage arm,” general manager Rick Hahn said Wednesday. “A guy who has experience throwing late in games, sinker/slider guy who with perhaps some adjustments profiles nicely for our ballpark.
“We potentially have another arm in the organization who can help us at some point during the season.”
Guerra has encountered injuries to his right shoulder, knee and oblique muscle through the course of his Dodgers career. The Sox 40-man roster is at 39.
