Gillaspie ill; Leury Garcia in White Sox lineup
Conor Gillaspie has flu-like symptoms and won’t be in the White Sox starting lineup for their game against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday (1:05 p.m.).
Gillaspie, who batted third on Opening Day and contributed a double, walk and run scored, likely would have batted third again today, manager Robin Ventura said.
“It seemed to work,” Ventura said. “It probably would have looked the same of he was all right.”
Ventura was hoping Gillaspie, who was dealing with stomach issues and was not in the clubhouse Wednesday morning, might be available to pinch-hit.
Marcus Semien, who played second base on Monday, is starting at third base. Leury Garcia will play second.
Right-hander Felipe Paulino, who has not started since he faced the Twins in June 2012 because of injuries, gets the start for the Sox against Twins right-hander Kevin Correia (2-2, 3.21 lifetime vs. Sox) Paulino (1-1, 4.61 vs. Twins) is not considered the Sox’ second-best starter but he is lined up second to keep the Sox’ three lefty starters (Chris Sale, Jose Quintana, John Danks) split up.
Here’s the lineup:
Adam Eaton CF
Marcus Semien 3B
Jose Abreu 1B
Adam Dunn DH
Avisail Garcia RF
Alejandro De Aza LF
Alexei Ramirez SS
Tyler Flowers C
Leury Garcia 2B
