Chris Conte close to returning from his concussion
Bears safety Chris Conte practiced throughout Wednesday in limited fashion, moving one step closer to getting cleared of his concussion and playing against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
“He’s going through the last portion of his protocol,” coach Marc Trestman said. “We should know a lot more [Thursday]. But he did practice the entire practice today.”
If cleared, Conte will be part of a rotation of safeties that plays against the Bills, Trestman said.
Conte suffered his concussion in the Bears’ third preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. He delivered two hard hits on Seahawks tight ends, including one that broke up a touchdown in the end zone.
It was Conte’s first game back since requiring shoulder surgery in the offseason. But the fourth-year safety with 40 careers starts definitely left an impression.
“He played fast and he was aggressive,” defensive coordinator Mel Tucker said. “We liked that.”
