Blackhawks target Ryan Kesler dealt to Anaheim Ducks
Ryan Kesler was indeed traded on Friday, but not to Chicago.
The Vancouver Canucks dealt Kesler to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. The Canucks get forward Nick Bonino, defenseman Luca Sbisa, and the 24th and the 85th overall picks in today’s draft in exchange for Kesler and the Canucks’ third-rounder next year.
The Hawks were in the market for Kesler, who has two years left on his contract at $5 million a season, and reportedly would only approve a trade to Chicago, Pittsburgh or Anaheim. That limited Vancouver’s options significantly. It’s not clear who exactly the Hawks offered, but a source said the Canucks were interested in either Brandon Saad or Teuvo Teravainen, neither of whom the Hawks were willing to part with.
