Bears place WR Marquess Wilson on injured reserve, will miss at least first eight games
Bears wide receiver Marquess Wilson won’t play in a game until at least Week 9 after the Bears placed him on Injured Reserve-Designated to return on Tuesday.
His 53-man roster spot was claimed by cornerback Kelvin Hayden, the Hubbard High School and Illinois alum who was cut Saturday.
Wilson, who broke his right clavicle diving for a pass in practice Aug. 4, cannot by rule return to practice until Week 7.
“The bottom line is that Marquess is a player who has an exciting future with the Bears,” general manager Phil Emery wrote in an online chat Tuesday. “And one way or another he will remain with the team.”
Each team receives one such designation every season, so the Bears cannot mark any other injured player to return. Charles Tillman used the exemption last season but never returned from his triceps injury.
The Bears will start the season with Josh Morgan and Santonio Holmes as the two main candidates for the third wide receiver position.
