Bears CB Kyle Fuller injures ankle vs. Jaguars
Cornerback Kyle Fuller, the Bears’ first-round draft pick, injured his right ankle during the opening kickoff Thursday against the Jaguars in exhibition play and did not return
But Fuller, who has been playing with the starting defense all training camp, said he should be OK.
“There was definitely concern,” Fuller said. “It was good news that the X-rays were negative and we will see how I feel [Sunday].”
The Bears have three days off before their next scheduled practice on Monday, so there’s time for Fuller to rest. Still, the Bears will take a cautious approach with their prized draft pick..
“Injuries are always the worst no matter how big or how small they are,” said Fuller, who wasn’t wearing a protective walking boot. “You just have to get healthy and get back on the field.”
Fuller, the Bears’ first-round pick, had worked with the first defense throughout camp. His injury caused a reshuffling against Jaguars, including Tim Jennings moving back to cornerback and Kelvin Hayden coming in at a nickel back.
Fuller’s scuffled-igniting takedown of tight end Martellus Bennett headlined his first camp. But his overall play had impressed his coaches and receivers Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Bennett.
“He had a really good first game [against the Eagles],” safety Ryan Mundy said. “I was very impressed. He played the game physical. He came up and tackled. We’ll get him back whenever he’s ready and he’ll be a key part to our defense moving forward.”
