Fugitives flee in canoe, cops use motorboat to catch them
Why run from the cops on land when you can paddle away from them on the water? That thought process worked for five hours for two Florida fugitives on Monday.
But like any fugitive who gets caught, their plan was anything but foolproof.
Garrett Eure, 23, of Gainesville, was on the run due to a warrant for failing to appear on — get this — an escape charge. His partner in crime, Jessie Bryant, 23, of Fort Pierce, was wanted on multiple charges.
Eure and Bryant suspected that authorities had found them and they ran to the Withlacoochee River, climbed into a canoe and tried to escape, the release said.
The K-9 unit was able to track them on foot to the river. After a 9-mile journey in their motor-less canoe, their plan was foiled because the cops had an easy advantage: a boat with a motor.
Bryant and Eure were taken into custody and are being held on no bond and $100,000 bond respectively.
