Surveillance video appears to show Blue Line O’Hare derailment
UPDATE: The full video has resurfaced online, watch it here:
A video posted to YouTube Tuesday night appeared to show footage of the Monday night Blue Line derailment that left more than 30 people injured and ended with the CTA train on the platform escalator and stairs. The GIF below shows the moment of impact from the video, however:
Calls to the CTA late Tuesday night went unanswered, though a message referred to the National Transportation Safety Board, which is handling the investigation. Calls to the NTSB went unanswered.
The video was apparently deleted just a few hours after being uploaded to YouTube and shared on the /r/Chicago subreddit but it reappeared early Wednesday morning.
No other details were immediately available. A number of lawsuits have already been filed.
The NTSB did release photos via Twitter of the scene Tuesday:
NTSB investigator Ted Turpin said earlier that in a preliminary review showed the train was traveling at the correct speed of 25 mph as it entered the station. Investigators said they have not yet determined whether the operator ever applied the in-cab brake.
