After White House meeting Boehner says Obama ‘reiterated one more time tonight he will not negotiate’
After a meeting at the White House, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told reporters Wednesday night the partisan divide keeping government shut down was no closer to finding common ground.
Boehner emerged a just before 7 p.m. to address about 50 reporters.
Boehner said the president “reiterated one more time tonight he will not negotiate,” according to a pool report. Boehner said it was a “nice conversation, a polite conversation,” but he pushed Obama to “allow the process that our founders gave us to work out.”
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi appeared a minute later and spoke for about ten minutes, and Reid said Boehner should “just take yes for an answer.”
They both said that the House has had six months to pass bills amending Obamacare, but that now is not the time.
Apparently Pelosi was the only leader who came out of the meeting and used the word “optimistic.”
