Jimmy Kimmel asks – Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act?
In the runup to the launch of Obamacare it’s become apparent that there’s a significant information gap between the targeted consumers, the government and the health care industry. Years of debate, fighting and bluster on both sides of the aisle have done little to educate the public on the realities of the Affordable Care Act.
Love the idea or hate it, the law clocks in at a staggering 900-plus pages and only the most ardent of experts can explain the ins and outs of one of the most complex pieces of legislation ever passed in this country.
Then again, maybe there’s just a branding issue.
In this man-on-the-street segment from “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” people are asked to pick between Obamacare and the ACA, which are, of course, one and the same. All but one of the people featured choose the ACA over Obamacare, citing its ease of use, fairness and general American values over the president’s namesake as some of the determining factors in their choices.
None of the people featured knew the two laws are one and the same.
Those Kimmel victims are hardly alone, however. This CNBC poll from early in September shows wildly different views about how the health law is affecting Americans.
