First Midwest Bank has agreed to buy the Chicago banking operations of Popular Community Bank. The Itasca-based banking company is buying 12 offices as Popular Community Bank leaves the market.

Homes sales in the city of Chicago were steadier in March than the rest of the metro area or statewide. Sales of single-family homes and condos in the city were off 6.5 percent last month compared with March 2013 but the median sales price soared 26.7 percent of $237,000.

Chicago and several suburbs are on AT&T Inc.’s radar for expansion of its super-fast Internet services. The company said Monday it is looking to expand its 1 gigabit per second service to as many as 100 communities in 25 metro areas.
