Two-hour TV special celebrates Wrigley Field’s 100th birthday
In honor of Wrigley Field turning 100 years old (it doesn’t look a day over 95), WGN-Channel 9 is airing a two-hour special on the legendary ballpark’s history.
“Wrigley 100: A Century Celebration” debuts at 7 p.m. April 20, three days before the 100th anniversary. There will be an encore airing at 4 p.m. April 26 in Chicago and at the same time nationally on WGN America.
The show is narrated by WGN Radio’s Steve Cochran and features custom drawings by cartoonist Drew Litton. The program includes interviews with more than 60 people, including Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, Ron Santo, Andre Dawson, Greg Maddux and Ryne Sandberg, as well as Kerry Wood, Rick Monday, Rick Sutcliffe and Derrek Lee.
Visiting greats such as Hank Aaron, Vin Scully, Mike Schmidt, Albert Pujols, Bob Uecker and Paul Konerko will be heard from, too. Other segments include Mike Ditka and Gale Sayers on playing for the Chicago Bears at Wrigley, wild moments at the park described by Harry Caray and Jack Brickhouse, and a look at some of Wrigley’s greatest games.
