New ABC singing competition searching for ‘Rising Stars’ in Chicago
Because television definitely needs another singing competition (was my sarcasm too pitchy?), ABC is launching a new summer reality series called “Rising Star.”
The show’s producers will be shooting through Chicago early next month looking for candidates.
Hopefuls have to be at least 16 years old. Solo vocalists, duos and vocal groups (up to five members) can register to try out in person or online at www.abc.com/risingstar. You can also nominate someone who you think has ‘Star’ power.
The nationwide talent search kicks off March 29 in Dallas. Chicago will be the third stop on April 8.
“Rising Star” is helmed by “American Idol’s” Ken Warwick and Nicolle Yaron of “The Voice.” ABC promises it “completely reinvents the traditional singing competition as — for the first time ever — the audience has the final say in real time.”
Aspiring singers on the show perform live while viewers vote in real time via an app. Those results determine whether the singer will advance in the competition. Contestants can see how the voting is shaping up throughout the performance, so “the feedback is immediate and dramatic,” ABC press materials say.
