Lady Gaga, LPC: Pre-concert counseling offered
There are easy jokes to be had here — like, if you’re at a Lady Gaga concert voluntarily, you probably do need some counseling, ha ha — but actually this is a serious matter and an interesting idea.
Lady Gaga is making professional mental health counseling available to fans before each concert on her current Born This Way Ball Tour, which stops Wednesday night at Chicago’s United Center.
No, Miss Meat Dress herself is not conducting the counseling, but professional counselors are available for individual or group chats about issues facing many of her teen fans.
She announced the service earlier on her Facebook page, saying:
For those wondering about the ‘counseling’ at the BTWBall BornBrave pre-show, it will be a fun tailgating experience for monsters to unite. At the BornBrave Bus you have access to professional private or group chats about mental health, depression, bullying, school & friends. There will also be food and games, DJ White Shadow and Lady Starlight will DJ with host BREEDLOVE to keep the experience fun.
BornBrave Bus Is a place where mental health + depression are taken seriously w/ no judgement, FREE real help available to all. I feel like most kids don’t look for help because they feel embarrassed so mom + I wanted to break the stigmas around ‘help’ and make it fun.
Gaga is referring to her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, with whom she established the Born This Way Foundation in 2011 “to foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated.”
Hundreds of fans showed up to the first counseling sessions at the first tour stop early in January in Tacoma, Wash.
