Jimmy Buffett fans in muddy Northerly Island lawn offered free tickets
Fans who watched Saturday’s Jimmy Buffett from the lawn at Northerly Island are being offered free tickets to future shows after complaints about muddy conditions.
Live Nation, the show’s promoter, said Monday it will email everyone who bought a lawn ticket with details on how to receive a lawn ticket for any show at the peninsula’s FirstMerit Bank Pavilion or the company’s other outdoor venues in Tinley Park and East Troy, Wis.
Patrons reported wet grass and soupy conditions in the lawn of the Chicago venue, newly expanded to boost capacity during the Buffett show.
“It was muddy to the point that every single person ion my group left the concert without shoes and mud up to their knees,” one fan wrote on the Facebook page of Buffett’s Margaritaville Bar & Grill on Navy Pier. Another unhappy Parrothead called the law “a big mud pit.”
Live Nation blamed the muck on this year’s heavy rainfall and apologized for the state of the ground. “The lawn retained a significant amount of water,” the company said in a statement,” and some lawn seating patrons encountered mud or were subjected to compromised sight lines as other patrons moved away from muddy areas.
