Jenny McCarthy joins ‘The View’ as co-host
McCarthy, 40, a self-described wild child-turned-mommy warrior who writes a blog and advice column for The Sun-Times’ Splash section, has made 17 appearances on “The View” and guest co-hosted eight times on the show featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, fellow Chicagoan Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck (until last week) and Walters. The outspoken comedian/actress/former Playboy playmate who launched her own late-night talk show on VH1 earlier this year starts her new gig Sept. 9.
“We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on ‘The View’ starting in September,” Walters said. “Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for ‘The View.’”
“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table,” McCarthy said in a statement released by ABC. “I’d like to thank ABC for this great opportunity. I’d also like to give a big thank you to VH1 for their support and for allowing me to fulfill this lifelong dream. I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off.”
McCarthy was a tad less formal in announcing the move on her Splash blog, saying “I will be doing everything I can to provoke conversation, make you think, make you laugh and maybe even spill the beans on what goes on backstage (like if I accidentally barge into Bradley Cooper’s dressing room in a towel). I might be moving from late night to daytime, but I’m just as fun with a mimosa as I am with a martini.”
McCarthy’s appointment is the latest change to hit the in-flux hosting line-up of the long-running show, which kicks off Season 17 this fall. Hasselbeck made her departure last week for “Fox & Friends,” and Behar is leaving this summer. Walters also is on the way out after announcing her retirement earlier this year.
