Here’s a clip from Kanye West’s 2008 unaired, improvised HBO comedy
There exists a parallel universe where Kanye West’s 2008 HBO TV show was made, just further proof that we live in one of the darker timelines. Thankfully, some choice demo reels are circulating with 4:22 of juicy improvisational Kanye goodness. MTV reported this in 2008 about the pilot:
The show is roughly Kanye’s version of Larry David’s show, “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” an idea that Kanye thought up himself. “What Kanye West said to me the first time, [Larry Charles] said, ‘I’m the black Larry David.’ That’s the first thing he said to me. So it’s like a Kanye-and-’Curb’ show, it’s kind of improvised about the situations and stuff.
The clip itself is kind of hit or miss, but it hints at what could have been. Seinfeld writer-producer Larry Charles was attached to the project, but it sounds like HBO management issues sidelined the show.
“Oh no, yeah, I’ve heard of [Time magazine], I have a subscription. I just didn’t think they’d put you on the cover. For what?”
“Well, you don’t have to think they put me on the cover, because they did. It doesn’t have to be in your thoughts, it was in your reality.
Warning: it’s weird.
