The U of I Joker has the last laugh — and tickets to post-Oscars 'Ellen Show'
Before Ellen DeGeneres hosts the Oscars on Sunday, she had some funny business to attend to at University of Illinois. (Watch what she was up to on Wednesday’s show at 3 p.m. on WMAQ-Channel 5.)
The syndicated daytime talk show host took to Twitter to ask U of I students to gather on the Quad at 3 p.m. Monday at the Urbana-Champaign campus dressed as their favorite movie characters.

Around 4,000 people showed up — professors must have been thrilled. Via satellite from her Burbank, Calif., studio, Ellen narrowed it down to eight contenders and asked them to perform a line from the movie their character is in. She ended up choosing Tad from Greenville, Ill., who dressed up as the Joker from “Batman.”
Tad won the grand prize: a trip for two to Los Angeles to see Ellen’s post-Oscar show Monday — a rare live broadcast of the chatfest. The runners up won a $500 American Express Gift Card.

Ellen will air the U of I stunt on Wednesday’s show at 3 p.m. on WMAQ-Channel 5 in Chicago, same time on WCIA-Channel 3 in Champaign.

While Ellen wasn’t on campus in the flesh, her correspondent Jeannie Klisiewicz — a 2008 U of I grad — was. The Daily Illini ran an interesting story about Klisiewicz’s involvement with the show and how she landed a job there.
