Comedy chums Fey & Poehler to again host ‘Globes’ — for 2 more years
In an unusual — possibly un-precedented — move, NBC has announced Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the Golden Globe Awards for the next two years. While previous Golden Globe host Ricky Gervais did host for three years in a row, he was rehired on a year-to-year basis.
Along with fronting the annual awards ceremony Jan. 12, sponsored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the former Second City and “Saturday Night Live” mainstays will also co-host the show in 2015.
Fey. the former “30 Rock” star and her longtime comedy chum Poehler, who stars on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” obviously have had a lengthy relationship with the peacock network. Rumors have been flying for months that the duo would again host the Globes — where they were a huge hit earlier this year. The 2013 show had the largest audience the Golden Globes — seen as an important precursor to the Oscars — had attracted in six years.
More importantly, to advertisers, Fey and Poehler’s ratings among the coveted 18 to 49 year-old demographic soared an impressive 28 percent.
The 2014 Golden Globes will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 on WMAQ-Channel 5.
